It seems that the trend of releasing an S version of a particular product has extended to the automobile industry. This trend is made popular by Apple for making S versions of their phones a year after the base model was released. Now, Lamborghini follows the same trend by giving us the all-new 2017 Lamborghini Aventador S. The highly-anticipated S version of the Lamborghini Aventador is equipped with some serious performance upgrades to give it a new look and a much improved aerodynamic performance. It is even faster and more fun to ride than the base model too!
The design and body construction of the 2017 Aventador S is clearly modern Lamborghini. There are also some design elements that are retained which gives the new car some sort of resemblance to the previous iconic Lamborghini cars. One good example of this is the rear wheel arc with the extreme look design of the famous Countach from before. The stop-and-start system and cylinder deactivation from the predecessor is also retained here.
Going to the front, you’ll see a new and a longer front splitter. The rear now have a black or carbon fibre diffuser depending on your choice. There are 3 exhaust tips on the rear that forms a triangular shape. There is also an active rear wing which comes 3 moveable positions.
The more serious improvements of the Aventador S is focused on its performance. It has a four-wheel drive system, an active suspension system, EGO driving mode and a four-wheel driving system which are all new.
The four-wheel steering system is the same from that of the Porsche system. It has a much improved agility at low and medium speeds and provides more stability at high speeds. The Lamborghini Dynamic Steering is also specifically re-tuned. The car also has a new suspension geometry which comes with a new upper and lower arm. Other improvements worth noting are the new variable damping, improved ESC and rear springs. The car’s permanent 4-wheel drive system is also calibrated to match the Lamborghini Rear-wheel steering and to allow more torque to go to the rear axle.
A new driving mode is also introduced with the car. The EGO driving mode allows a drive to pick between characteristics of the 3 standard Aventador S; Corsa, Sport and Strada. The steering, traction, and suspension will be adjusted according to the charateristics you’ve picked.
The Lamborghini Aventador S still carries the same 6.5 litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine. This engine has an additional 40hp which translates to 740hp peak power, 690 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The VVT (Variable Valve Timing) and VIS (Variable Intake System) are now modified. The maximum engine rev is also increased from 8,350 to 8,500 rpm. The new car has a 350 km/h top speed and go 0 to 100 km/h time in just 2.9 seconds.
Lamborghini’s Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) 7-speed gearbox now comes as a standard feature. The exhaust is now 20% lighter than the predecessor. The car comes with a new set of Pirelli P Zero to go along with the car’s carbon ceramic brakes as a standard feature. On the inside, the Aventador S is given with a new TFT dashboard. There is also the AppleCarPlay as a standard feature and a Lamborghini telemetry system as an optional specification.
The 2017 Lamborghini Aventador S is going to be available on the market this spring of 2017. Prices are expected to start from $290.00 (€281,555).
